Camels in Israel

The Sites of the Negev
Touring the Negev on Camels in Israel

A camel ride at any time is quite a unique treat. A camel ride in Israel and through the Negev Desert is a once in a lifetime experience that you are certain never to forget. You will find many a camel farm in the Negev area that specializes in this very thing. The tour guides on these farms are usually trained to make this a very family-friendly experience. Camels have been very common in the area for centuries. In ancient times they were commonly used to transport goods and spices. A camel that has lots of burdens on it can travel up to 35 km without rest or water.

The Towns and Farms that Arose Because of Camels In Israel

This is why towns arose up throughout the Negev at that time evenly spaced 35 km between each other. One of the most popular tourist camel farms in the area is the Negev Camel Ranch. You will find this farm about halfway between the Dead Sea and Beer Sheva. Unlike most camel farms, the Negev Camel Ranch breeds and trains its own camels. It also makes camel saddles that are so respected that they are commonly used around the world. They offer family rides with a two-hour option and a four-hour option. You will most likely venture into the breathtaking Dead Sea. There are many sites of interest in the area.

Masada and the Negev Bedouin Hospitality

Perhaps the most so is Masada, an ancient fortress built on a high plateau overlooking the Dead Sea. After the ride, you can opt to stay with an authentic Negev Bedouin community. While there you can taste Bedouin cuisine, opt for another camel ride (or you can do this instead of using one of the other tourist camel farms), take in traditional Bedouin music, and even sleep in a Bedouin tent. The Negev Bedouin are famous for their hospitality so they will always make you feel extremely welcome.
